"Go And Do"

"Go And Do"

Good morning Lord Jesus,

I need your breath of life in my soul like my lungs need breaths of air. So I set aside this morning time to breath deep.

“Now an expert in religious law stood up to test Jesus, saying, “Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” He said to him, “What is written in the law? How do you understand it?” The expert answered, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind, and love your neighbor as yourself.” Jesus said to him, “You have answered correctly; do this, and you will live.”

But the expert, wanting to justify himself, said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?” Jesus replied, “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell into the hands of robbers, who stripped him, beat him up, and went off, leaving him half dead. Now by chance a priest was going down that road, but when he saw the injured man he passed by on the other side. So too a Levite, when he came up to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. But a Samaritan who was traveling came to where the injured man was, and when he saw him, he felt compassion for him. He went up to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring oil and wine on them. Then he put him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him. The next day he took out two silver coins and gave them to the innkeeper, saying, ʻTake care of him, and whatever else you spend, I will repay you when I come back this way.ʼ Which of these three do you think became a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of the robbers?” The expert in religious law said, “The one who showed mercy to him.” So Jesus said to him, “Go and do the same.” (Luke 10:25-37)

“But a Samaritan who was traveling came to where the injured man was, and when he saw him, he felt compassion for him.” Here is what made the Samaritan different from the priest and Levite: He felt compassion for the robbed man. In the story, compassion becomes the concrete expression of love. The next verse details explicitly six acts of compassion.

1.“He came up to him:” He did not ignore the man, he allowed him to interrupt his busy schedule and  he got his hands dirty with love

2.”He bandaged his wounds”: before he could bandage his wounds, he had to take time to discover what the man’s wounds and hurts were.

3. He “poured oil and wine on the wounds”: He took time not to just lobserve and listen, but to tangibly touch his wounds and give him what needed for healing.

4. “He put him on his own animal.”: He put the man first including inconveniencing himself by putting them man on his own mode of transportation and choosing to walk.

5.” He brought him to an inn”; He sought out and took the man to resources in his community that could continue to assist the man in his healing and meet his needs.

6. “He took care of him”; The two silver coins were denarii. A denarius was a silver coin worth about a day's pay for a laborer; this would be an amount worth about two days' of the Samaritan’s pay, a sizable amount.  The man was generous in his compassion.

7. And I can add another act from verse 35, “when I come back this way.”; The Samaritn intentionally made plans to  stay connected and follow-up a with the man’s progress.

The religious expert was concerned and concentrated not on himself, but on others people’s qualifications, who his neighbor was.  Jesus was concerned and concentrated on the experts own personal qualifications. In verse 10:36, Jesus reversed the question the expert in religious law asked in v. 29 “Who is my neighbor?” and Jesus asked the expert, “Which of these three do you think became a neighbor?”  Jesus’ question to the expert focused on him,  to one of becoming a neighbor by loving. “Do not think about who they are, but who you are," was in a sense Jesus’ reply.

The Samaritan, the neighbor, did not just do what was required  of him, but had mercy on the injured man.  He had compassion and showed mercy and out of kindness went the extra step that shows love.

The expert began this encounter with Jesus by asking Jesus, ““Teacher, what must I DO to inherit eternal life?” The answer “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind, and love your neighbor as yourself.” Jesus said “DO this and you will live.” Then Jesus gave the example of the Good Samaritan to show what this “Doing” actually looks like in the day to day life of one of his followers. And Jesus ends the conversations with the command to him and us “Go and DO the same.”

My family, As you begin your work week, I pray you may meditate on this passage and walk out your door this morning with a heart full of compassion, mercy and love to “DO,” in Jesus’ name.  Please pray the same for me.  God bless you my friends!

"Sent Ones"

Good morning Lord Jesus, help me to see my life this morning and you see it, and then go live it according to your vision..

“After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them on ahead of him two by two into every town and place where he himself was about to go. He said to them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Therefore ask the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest….Then the seventy-two returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name!” So he said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.” (Luke 10:1-2.17-18)

Jesus sent out his followers into there communities that were under enemy occupation by foreign armies of Rome. They were being brutally taxed by Rome, life was hard, making ends meet was difficult, and their world appeared a darker, more evil place.  Then Jesus’ followers entered into these communities with the Gospel of love and hope of Jesus Christ.  They brought the light of Christ with them into their community’s darkness, and like cockroaches in a basement when the lights are turned on, evil fled and scurried away, and as Jesus saw, “Satan fell like lightning from heaven” and the “ruler of this world was cast out” of these communities. (John 12:31)

Jesus said, “I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” (Matthew 16:18). In the saving works of Jesus’ death, resurrection and ascension on the cross and the releasing of the power and presence of the Holy Spirit into all of us who call Jesus Lord, Jesus’ church was built.  And the gates of Hell that will not prevail against His church are not just the literal gates of hell itself, but the gates of the living hell people are trapped in and overcome by from the present evil, injustice, and hate in this world.  By Jesus saying the gates of hell will not prevail against His church, means His church, His followers were not created for defense, but for offensive actions to be “sent out,” like the 72, with the light of the hope of Christ to tear down the gates of darkness in our communities.  “So Jesus said to them again,… Just as the Father has sent me, I also send you.” (John 20:21)

Each of us who claim to be Christians and are followers of Jesus have received and are full of the presence, power, and light of the Holy Spirit. “The one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.” (1John 4:4)  And just as Jesus was a “Sent one” “God so loved the world he sent his only begotten Son” (John 3:16); Just like the apostles and the 72 followers of Jesus were “Sent Ones”; you and I followers of Jesus today are also to be “Sent Ones” into our neighborhoods, our workplaces, our cities, our nations and until the ends of the earth.

My family, I pray you will claim your identity and calling of a follower of Jesus as a “Sent One.” I pray you will understand that Jesus created the church not to be a location, but to be a movement of God to tear down the gates of hell in their communities, in Jesus’ name.  Please pray the same for me.  God bless you my friends!

I would love for you to please share your reflections with myself or others using the comment box below.

"Champion Warrior"

Good morning, Lord Jesus. King of Kings and Lord of Lords, come rule and reign in my heart and every moment of my day. ...

"For thus says the Lord: 'Even the captives of the mighty shall be taken, and the prey of the tyrant be rescued, for I will contend with those who contend with you, and I will save your children!'" (Isaiah 49:25)

I was watching TV and a commercial came on by a local personal injury lawyer who shouted, “I go to war for your family!” This is someone who “goes to war for us and our families daily, and it is not this injury lawyer, it is our Lord and our God. For there are battles being fought in the spiritual realm all around all the time. Battles for my health and hope, for my faith and finances, for my security and sense of peace, for my children and their children and their children and their children. But mighty are You, Lord! And powerful is Your name!

Though the battles are intense and the spiritual war is real, the victory was already won the very moment I welcomed You into my heart! You're my Mighty Warrior. You're my Dread Champion! You're the Mighty and Victorious One who contends with those who contend with me, who overcomes all that would try to overwhelm me!

"The Lord is a Warrior; the Lord is His name!" (Exodus 15:3)

"The Lord will go forth like a warrior,

He will arouse His zeal like a man of war.

He will utter a shout, yes, He will raise a war cry.

He will prevail against His enemies!" (Isaiah 42:13)

"The Lord is with me like a dread champion;

Therefore my persecutors will stumble and not prevail.

They will be utterly ashamed, because they have failed,

With an everlasting disgrace that will not be forgotten!" (Jeremiah 20:11)

"The Lord (my) God is in (my) midst,

A Victorious Warrior.

He will exult over (me) with joy,

He will quiet me in His love,

He will rejoice over (me) with shouts of joy!" (Zephaniah 3:17)

Mighty Warrior, I trust in You, knowing You're contending with those who contend with me, knowing that victory is mine because You've already prevailed through the power of Your blood and the victory of Your cross! "Having disarmed the powers and authorities, (You) made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross!" (Colossians 2:15)

Now I have victory in You in every battle I face. Let Your victory and my faith live loud in me today! "For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world -- our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God. This is He who came by water and blood -- Jesus Christ!" (1 John 5:4-6)  In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

My family may your faith live loud in you today, knowing the victory is won is Jesus Christ, in Jesus name. Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friends!

"Holy Angel Armies!"

Comment

"Holy Angel Armies!"

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Yesterday we sang the song Surrounded at our worship service. I woke up singing it so I sing Your name over all, and surrender my all to You. ...

"(The king of Aram) said, 'Go and find where (Elisha) is; I will send and seize him.' He was told, 'He is in Dothan.' So he sent horses and chariots there and a great army; they came by night, and surrounded the city. When the attendant of the man of God rose early in the morning and went out, an army of horse and chariots was all around the city. His servant said, 'Alas, master! What shall we do?' He replied, 'Do not be afraid, for there are more with us than there are with them.' Then Elisha prayed: 'O Lord, please open his eyes that he may see.' So the Lord opened the eyes of the servant, and he saw; the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha!" (2 Kings 6:13-17).

In the morning, when I rise, no doubt there are great armies of horses and chariots, armed with weapons of worry and fear, confusion and chaos, hopelessness and despair, ready to come riding down on my mind and my spirit to overwhelm and overcome me, battling to take my thoughts captive. They want to present themselves as big and mighty, too much to overcome and no chance to stand against them, projecting themselves to be much bigger and much stronger than they are. They want to demand my attention, the priority of my thoughts, in the very first moments of my morning to plunder the treasure of my time with You.

But my Master, You open my eyes to see! You lift my eyes to the hills where my help comes from! You open my spirit to perceive the truth I'm not alone, I'm not overwhelmed, I'm not overcome. You draw my heart into the intimacy of Your strong embrace and security of Your steadfast love. And You remind me "The One who is in (me) is greater than the one who is in the world" (1 John 4:4).

As I look to You and give You the priority of my day, the first thoughts of my morning, as my first act of worship in prayer and praise, my spiritual enemies don't look so big and mighty. In the light of Your truth and the Presence of Your Spirit, they flee away at the sound of my praise and the authority of my prayers in the power of Your name. "Let God arise; let His enemies be scattered; let those who hate Him flee before Him!" (Psalm 68:1)

Thank You, my Master, my Lord and Savior, for opening the eyes of my heart to see You, to know You, to experience Your Presence right here with me to overpower my enemies and overcome my adversary (Ephesians 1:15-21). Great are You, Lord! Mighty is Your name!

Thank You for Your Holy Spirit. Thank You for Your holy angel armies. Thank You that in You there are always many more with me than those against me! For nothing can stand against You and Your great name! (Philippians 2:9-11) And with You standing for me, nothing can stand against me, for I am always an overcomer and more than a conqueror in You! (Romans 8:31-39) In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

My family, may you be encouraged and empowered to overcome your spiritual enemies, as you look up to the Lord with eyes of your spirit and the surrender of your heart to Him, in Jesus name. Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friends!

"Relentless Remnant"

"Relentless Remnant"

Good morning, Lord Jesus. King of kings and Lord of lords, come rule and regain in my heart and life today. ...

As I listen for the leading of Your Spirit and ponder Your Word in my heart, I hear a cry in my heart rising up in my prayer: Lord, I want to be found faithful to You. I want to walk in Your Light, even as the darkness of this world closes in. I want to be filled with faith and hope and love, despite the challenges we face and the testing we endure on our journey through this broken and fallen world, where You are making us more like You each day. (Romans 8:29). I want to be part of Your relentless remnant, who don’t give in, who don’t back off, but who press in for the fullness of all You say we are and all You’ve created us to be, with our eyes fixed on You and our hope resting in You.

As I hear these words “relentless remnant” in heart’s cry just now, Your Word comes to mind:

“I ask, then, has God rejected His people? By no means! I myself am an Israelite, a descendant of Abraham, a member of the tribe of Benjamin. God has not rejected His people whom He foreknew. Do you not know what the Scripture says of Elijah, how he pleads with God against Israel? ‘Lord, they have killed Your prophets, they have demolished Your altars; I alone am left, and they are seeking my life.’ But what is the divine reply to him? ‘I have kept for Myself seven thousand who have not bowed the knee to Baal.’ So, too, at the present time there is a remnant chosen by grace. But if it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works, otherwise grace would no longer be grace” (Romans 11:1-6).

Lord, You don’t back off of Your calling to me. Give me grace to not back off of my commitment to You. “For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable” (Romans 11:29). Give me grace to keep trusting and believing, with a sure and confident hope in You and all that You say I am and have for me to honor You with my life (Romans 11:20).

According to the warnings of Your Word, there will come a day when “many will fall away and betray one another and hate one another. And many false prophets will arise and lead many astray. And because lawlessness will be increased, the love of many will grow cold. But the one who endures to the end will be saved” (Matthew 24:10-13). “Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will renounce the faith by paying attention to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons, through the hypocrisy of liars whose consciences are seared with a hot iron” (1 Timothy 4:1-2). “For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths” (2 Timothy 4:3-4).

Lord, give me Your grace that my love will not grow cold, but will burn with increasing passion for You, with unwavering commitment to You. Give me grace that I would never surrender and never retreat before the enemies of the cross or the lawless darkness of this world. Give me grace to “be found faithful” to the end (1 Corinthians 4:2), to “fight the good fight of the faith (and) take hold of the eternal life to which (I have been) called” (1 Timothy 6:12).

“Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love Him” (James 1:12). By the power of Your grace at work in every heart turned to You, pressing in to You, “we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who have faith and preserve their souls” (Hebrews 10:39).

Yes, Lord. Give me grace to be a part of Your “relentless remnant.” In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

My family,  I pray you may be found faithful in the Lord, part of His "relentless remnant" in the earth by the power of His grace at work within you and shining through you in the midst of the darkness and lawlessness of our world, in Jesus' name. Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friends!

"The Golden Rule"

"The Golden Rule"

Good morning Lord Jesus, This morning I seek to receive your love so I can give out your love…

 “Don’t steal. “Don’t lie. “Don’t deceive anyone.

12 “Don’t swear falsely using my name, violating the name of your God. I am God.

13 “Don’t exploit your friend or rob him.

“Don’t hold back the wages of a hired hand overnight.

14 “Don’t curse the deaf; don’t put a stumbling block in front of the blind; fear your God. I am God.  15 “Don’t pervert justice. Don’t show favoritism to either the poor or the great. Judge on the basis of what is right.16 “Don’t spread gossip and rumors.

“Don’t just stand by when your neighbor’s life is in danger. I am God.

17 “Don’t secretly hate your neighbor. If you have something against him, get it out into the open; otherwise you are an accomplice in his guilt.

18 “Don’t seek revenge or carry a grudge against any of your people.

“Love your neighbor as yourself. I am God.

19 “Keep my decrees. (Leviticus 19:11-19, The Message Bible)

The Holy Spirit has me continuing in my reflection I began yesterday on loving my neighbor.  I read the divinely inspired words above posted though God in our Bible.  Then I read the words of Christian people posted on Facebook, Twitter, and other social media.  I listen to the words of politicians who claim to be Christians that personally attack there opponent, or those of one political party against another.  I sit at the Waffle House counter and listen to the conversations of customers and employees. I listen to the conversations of people at my work. And there is a strong and obvious contrast between the Words of God and the words of people in all these conversations that enter my being today.  They are saddening my soul.

Jesus gave us what we call the “Golden Rule;” “In everything, treat others as you would want them to treat you, for this fulfills the law and the prophets.” Matthew (7:12)

God spoke to us His wisdom through Solomon’ “Do not be a witness against your neighbor without cause, and do not deceive with your words.

Do not say, “I will do to him just as he has done to me; I will pay him back according to what he has done.” (Proverbs 28:28-29)

We as Christians need to love our neighbors. In all the many ways we can communicate to people today through conversations either personally, in texts, emails and on social medias, we need to post and converse as if we are posting to our neighbor.  We need to post as a witness of persons under the Lordship of Jesus.  We need to post with love.

With the reach of social media conversations, the whole world is now our neighbor. Jesus, in His parable of “The Good Samaritan” found in Luke 10 states that everyone is our neighbor.  And Jesus closes this parable with; “Which of these three do you think became a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of the robbers?” The expert in religious law said, “The one who showed mercy to him.” So Jesus said to him, “Go and do the same.” (Luke 10:36)

My family, I pray today we all obey Jesus words and “Go and do the same” in all our conversations and interactions with our “Neighbors.”  In Jesus’ name.  Please pray the same for me.  God bless you my friends!

I invite you to please share in the comments box below ways you have or are loving your neighbors to encourage us.

"Loving Our Neighbors"

"Loving Our Neighbors"

Good morning Lord Jesus,  command me in your ways of love.

 “The LORD says,

“Because he is devoted to me, I will deliver him;

I will protect him because he is loyal to me.

When he calls out to me, I will answer him.

I will be with him when he is in trouble;

I will rescue him and bring him honor.

I will satisfy him with long life,

and will let him see my salvation.”

(Psalm 91:14-16)

My wife and I became aware of a  situation that was attacking our neighbors and their family.  It was causing them great anxiety, fear, and loss of sleep.  Saturday evening and yesterday morning we prayed over them.   Yesterday morning after we finished praying over them, we invited them over to our home to pray with them.  They came over and we had a “church” gathering of seven of us: my wife and I, my neighbor and his wife, and three cats we are house sitting in our home for a few days for friends who are moving, prayed over their family, our family, and lifted our hearts to God.  Tears came down cheeks and the flowed down and filled the room, and “Yes”, “Amens”, and praise went up to God.  And the atmosphere of our neighborhood changed.

In my previous devotion last Friday, I quoted from Isaiah 6, “I heard the voice of the sovereign master say, “Whom will I send? Who will go on our behalf?” I answered, “Here I am, send me!” He said, “Go and tell these people:”  “These people” include your neighbors.  The people living down the street or down the hall.  Your neighbors are your mission field.

“And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.” (Mark 12:29-31)

My family, as the sun comes up on a Monday and we begin the plans of another week, I pray your plans for this week will include intentionally loving your neighbors. Invite the Holy Spirit to lead you in how to love them, pray for them, and to enter their lives.  In Jesus’ name.  Please pray the same for me.  God bless you my friends!

I invite you to please share in the comments box below ways you have or are loving your neighbors to encourage us.

"In The Year Of King Uzziah"

"In The Year Of King Uzziah"

“In the year of King Uzziahʼs death, I saw the sovereign master seated on a high, elevated throne. The hem of his robe filled the temple. Seraphs stood over him; each one had six wings. With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and they used the remaining two to fly. They called out to one another, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord who commands armies! His majestic splendor fills the entire earth!” The sound of their voices shook the door frames, and the temple was filled with smoke.

I said, “Too bad for me! I am destroyed, for my lips are contaminated by sin, and I live among people whose lips are contaminated by sin. My eyes have seen the king, the LORD who commands armies.” But then one of the seraphs flew toward me. In his hand was a hot coal he had taken from the altar with tongs. He touched my mouth with it and said, “Look, this coal has touched your lips. Your evil is removed; your sin is forgiven.” I heard the voice of the sovereign master say, “Whom will I send? Who will go on our behalf?” I answered, “Here I am, send me!” He said, “Go and tell these people.” (Isaiah 6:1-6).

“In the year of King Uzziahʼs death,” I bet when most people read the passage above, the read over this line and did not give it much more thought than an interesting added historical note.  However, it is an important element to this passage.  King Uzziah ruled over Judah for over 52 years.  He was a good king and ruled justly.  If I was to ask you who was the best president we have had in the USA, some may say Reagan, some may say Obama.  However, image a great, good president leading and serving our country not for 4 year, or 8 years, but 52 years.  By the end of their presidency, as with the end of Uzziah’s rule, there would have been a feeling of great stability, prosperity, and peace in the in the nation.

When King Uzziah died, for the first time in over half a century stability ended, and uncertainty, chaos, change, overshadowed Judah.  It citizens where fearful and had anxiety over their lives and their future.  It was in this time of uncertainty and chaos the God came to Isaiah in his vision.  If you look back at the history of all the revivals of God in the world, they did not come to a people in a time of prosperity, but in times of chaos, anxiety, and fear.

God wants to pour out His Holy Spirit into the church and into the lives of His people, including you and including me today.  In the midst of our chaos and fears over our lives with inflation, mass shootings, racial concerns, hurricanes, the war in Ukraine, God wants a revival.  This morning our cry is the same as in Isaiah’s vision, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord who commands armies! His majestic splendor fills the entire earth!”

My family, I pray this morning you will cry out to God, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord who commands armies! His majestic splendor fills the entire earth!” I pray in this anxiety of your life you will seek an outpouring of God’s Holy Spirit, in Jesus’ name.  Please pray the same for me.  God bless you my friends!

I would love for you to please share your reflections with myself or others using the comment box below.

Holy Repentance = Holy Fire

Holy Repentance = Holy Fire

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Lord of all, lead me into all You have for me today. ...

“In those days John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness of Judea, proclaiming, ‘Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.’ This is the one of whom the prophet Isaiah spoke when he said,

‘The voice of one crying out in the wilderness:

‘Prepare the way of the Lord;

    make His paths straight.’” ...

(He declared,) “I baptize you with water for repentance, but the One who is coming after me is more powerful than I, and I am not worthy to carry His sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and Fire. His winnowing fork is in His hand, and He will clear His threshing floor and will gather His wheat into the granary, but the chaff He will burn with unquenchable Fire’” (Matthew 3:1-12).

Tuesday I blogged on are need to forgive. Fogiveness flows out of our requirement to repent.  Why, because I want a revival of the Holy Spirit in me, in you and in our churches.  However, before the Holy Spirit can be the “Holy Comforter” He first has to be the Holy Convictor”  Before we can receive the baptism of power and Holy Fire, we must first choose the baptism of repentance.  That is why John the Baptizer performed a baptism of repentance, to prepare those to receive Jesus’ baptism of Fire.

Thank You, Lord, for the baptism of “water for repentance.” We cannot enter the kingdom of heaven without repentance; it’s when we “repent” that the “kingdom of heaven has come near” (v. 2). That’s our salvation, when we repent and turn to You, when we “confess with (our) mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in (our) heart that God raised Him from the dead, (we) will be saved” (Romans 10:9).

But there is more. When we repent and turn to You, we’ll go to heaven when we die, but You also want heaven in us now. You desire to have a people on this earth who are called by Your name, but also display Your nature in their hearts and move in the power of Your Spirit in their lives. You desire that we not only be baptized “with water for repentance,” but that we also be baptized “with the Holy Spirit and Fire” (Matthew 3:11).

This is the Promise of the Father, what our Father has promised to all who wait upon the Lord until we “have been clothed with power from on high” (Luke 24:49). What You desired for Your first disciples just before You ascended to heaven after Your resurrection, You continue to desire for every disciple, as recorded in the first words of the Book of Acts at the beginning of Your Church in the earth:

“In the first book, Theophilus, I wrote about all that Jesus began to do and teach until the day when He was taken up to heaven, after giving instructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles whom He had chosen. After His suffering He presented Himself alive to them by many convincing proofs, appearing to them during forty days and speaking about the kingdom of God. While staying with them, He ordered them not to leave Jerusalem but to wait there for the Promise of the Father. ‘This,’ He said, ‘is what you have heard from Me; for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.’”

So when they had come together, they asked Him, ‘Lord, is this the time when You will restore the kingdom to Israel?’ He replied, ‘It is not for you to know the times or periods that the Father has set by His own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be My witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.’  (Acts 1:1-8).

Lord, send Your Fire! Send the Fire that baptizes us with Your Holy Spirit. Send the Fire that fulfills the Promise of our Father for all Your sons and daughters. Your Fire fell on the day of Pentecost for the beginning of Your Church (Acts 2:1). And Your Fire stills falls on all who wait upon You to “be clothed with power from on high,” to “receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon (us)” (Luke 24:49; Acts 1:8).

The Apostle Peter declared the need to repent of sin to receive Holy Spirit fire.  On the Day of Pentecost Peter proclaimed: “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ so that your sins may be forgiven, and you will receive the Gift of the Holy Spirit. For the Promise is for you, for your children, and for all who are far away, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to Him” (Acts 2:38-29).

That same Holy Fire that empowers us is the same Holy Fire that sanctifies us -- that burns out of us everything in us that is not yet like Jesus. “For this is the will of God, (our) sanctification” (1 Thessalonians 4:3). That “the God of peace Himself sanctify (us) entirely, and (that our) spirit and soul and body be kept sound and blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Thessalonians 5:23).

We can’t do that ourselves; You have to do that in us, by Your Holy Fire burning within us, both empowering us and sanctifying us, to be like You as Your witnesses in our world. “The One who calls (us) is faithful, and He will do this” (1 Thessalonians 5:24).

Do this in me, Lord. Today and every day. Baptize me afresh with Your Holy Spirit. Consume me with Your Holy Fire. “For indeed our God is a Consuming Fire” (Hebrews 12:29). Come set me ablaze this day and every day to be one of Your burning ones, empowered with the authority of Your Spirit and sanctified with the character of Your nature. Let me continually “be filled with the Spirit” (Ephesians 5:18).  Shine through me, with Your Holy Fire burning in me. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

My Family,  may you be baptized with the Holy Spirit and enter the baptism of repentance, so you can be set ablaze with the Consuming Fire of God to be His witness in your world, with His authority in your words and His character in your heart, in Jesus' name. Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friends!

"On Earth As In Heaven"

"On Earth As In Heaven"

Good morning Lord Jesus,  Help me be present and rest in your love.

 “So pray this way:

Our Father in heaven, may your name be honored,

may your kingdom come,

may your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us today our daily bread,

and forgive us our debts, as we ourselves have forgiven our debtors.

And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.

“For if you forgive others their sins, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others, your Father will not forgive you your sins.” (Matthew 6:9-13)

Jesus came for the forgiveness of sins.  My sins, your sins, the removal of shame and the restoration of life.  In a familiar story in the Gospels,  Jesus forgives the sins of a paralytic man:

“And when they could not get near him because of the crowd, they removed the roof above him, and when they had made an opening, they let down the bed on which the paralytic lay. And when Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven.”” (Mark 2:4-5)

When Jesus forgives someone’s sins,  like those of the paralytic man, he does not just forgive the sins the paralytic man committed against Himself, but the also the sins the man committed against others.  He forgives all sins.  The paralytic man may have wronged another person in that house with him and Jesus.  He may have lied to them, cheated them, or hurt them in some other sinful act. And that person the man did a sinful act may still be hurt, mad at him, and refusing to forgive him, but when Jesus forgave the paralytic man, he forgave him for the sins he committed against others. When Jesus forgives the sins of your neighbors, he forgives the not only the sins the committed before God, but also the sins they committed against you.

We wrestle with and think it is hard to forgive others who hurt us or our family.  Think about standing in for and forgiving a person for hurting another person.  That is what Jesus does.  When we say the Lord’s prayer we claim, “may your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”

Jesus forgives a person with a penitent heart that ask for forgiveness.  Forgiveness is God’s will, so that forgiveness is completed  in heaven.  Jesus then looks at us and asks us to act on what we preach and pray, to forgive as well and to do on earth as He did in heaven. One of the greatest Christ like abilities  and characteristics that is given to Christians, is the ability to forgive.

My family, I pray over you the words you pray many times over yourself, “Jesus, may your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”  I pray you do on earth what has already been done in heaven, and forgive those who have sinned against you, in Jesus name.   Please pray the same for me.  God bless you my friends!

I would love for you to please share your reflections with myself or others using the comment box below.

"You Did It To Me"

Good morning Jesus, touch my heart with your love this morning so I can touch the hearts of others with your love.

“When the Son of Man comes in his glory and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne. All the nations will be assembled before him, and he will separate people one from another like a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left. Then the king will say to those on his right, ʻCome, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.ʼ Then the righteous will answer him, ʻLord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or naked and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?ʼ And the king will answer them, ʻI tell you the truth, just as you did it for one of the least of these brothers or sisters of mine, you did it for me.ʼ (Matthew 25:31-39)

Every Day is the National Day of something.  Some of them I believe even Jesus would find weird. Like yesterday was National Moldy Chees Day and National Prolife Cupcake Day. Some though, like today’s, Jesus world participate in as they flow out Jesus’ heart of love for all people in this world.  Today, October 10th is  National World Homeless Day.   This day invites us together to find ways to change the lives of homeless people in our community or the community you live in. It’s a time to draw attention to the needs of the homeless on a local level. The poor and homeless had a special place in Jesus’ heart, and as followers of Jesus desiring to have a heart in us that imitates Jesus’, they need to have a special place in our hearts as well. There are many ways you can participate in this day.

Volunteer to serve at a local homeless shelter or a ministry that serves meals or in some other way helps out the homeless community that allows you to interact with. Or if you see a homeless person on the street, invite that person out for lunch or for dinner. If they do not want to go to a restaurant, offer to purchase you both a meal, then go back and sit, talk, and share a meal with them.  I am sure you will learn more about Jesus from your time spent with them.  Or invite them to go shopping with you and take them to a groceries store and buy them a few food items.   Or invite them to a Walmart and buy them a couple clothing items.

The key thing is as Jesus speaks to us in his words in Matthew 25, spend personal time with that homeless man or woman.  When Jesus says above ”When I was hungry you gave me something to eat” He did not mean you dropped off some canned goods to a food pantry or your church.  He meant you invited Him to a meal with you and you fed Him.  When Jesus says, “I was naked and you gave me clothing” He does not mean you dropped off clothes at a Good Will or thrift store, He meant you personally got me clothes.  Read Jesus words above again: I was a stranger and you invited me in; I was in prison and you visited me…these are all personal, intimate moments with Jesus.  So when Jesus says, ”As you did it for one of these least brothers and sisters of mine, you did it for me,” He means the “it” is the personal, intimate, encounters of love you entered into with the poor and the homeless.  We cannot try to disconnect this meaning or rationalize we have done this when we drop off outdated cans of food to our churches food drive or clothes that no longer fit us to thrift stores.  Such rationalization does not honor Jesus, and It does not honor our least of these brothers and sisters.  Both Jesus and them deserve more.

Such rationalization by people are at the basis of these words by Jesus.  “Not everyone who says to me, ʻLord, Lord,ʼ will enter into the kingdom of heaven - only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven. On that day, many will say to me, ʻLord, Lord, didnʼt we prophesy in your name, and in your name cast out demons and do many powerful deeds?ʼ Then I will declare to them, ʻI never knew you.”  (Matthew 7:21)

Giving food, clothing and money donations to organizations and ministries is absolutely a good thing!  However, these donations should not help contribute to, or your justifying you obeyed Jesus’ words in both passages above and then isolating yourself from the least of these, from Jesus.  The Kingdom of Heaven is a place of intimacy and love, entrance into it flows out of intimacy and love with Jesus. This is found and flows out of intimacy and love for our neighbors, the least of our brothers and sisters.

My Family, I pray on National Homeless day you will sit in the Holy Spirit’s leading and simply reflect on Jesus’ words, “just as you did it for one of the least of these brothers or sisters of mine, you did it for me.” In Jesus’ name.  Please pray the same for me.  God bless you my friends!

"Pushing Back Satan, Claiming Christ"

"Pushing Back Satan, Claiming Christ"

Good morning Lord Jesus, Father,, and Spirit, as you are one help our nation and world be one and ley me be a source of your peace throughout my day.

Tuesday afternoon my wife and I drove down to Birmingham to help our daughters. Ivy wife and I got back into to around midnight last night. For the past two days I have not watched any news on TV. That was a blessing. This morning I turned on the news and I was reminded again of the terrible devastation in Florida. A story of a former police officer that walked into a Day Care facility that shot and killed 30 people, then drove home and shot and killed his family and himself. Saudi Oil producers lowering production and rising gas prices, The war in the Ukraine and the list went on. So this morning I am intentionally "pushing back then claiming."  Pushing back against anyway Satan and evil are involved in the pain and darkness in this world. And I am claiming the presence and protection of Christ over my life, my family, and our churches to secure them aa a Holy and righteous outpost of the Kingdom of God in my community and in the world that can defeat Satan and evil as “For greater is He who is in each of us than Satan and evil in the world” 1 John 4:4)

Today I am sharing again one of my favorite prayers that I have prayed over myself, my family, and our churches this morning.  It is out of the Book "Wild at Heart" by John Elredgre which I first read about 12 years ago as I prepared for my first trip to Darfur, Sudan. It is a prayer that pushes back against evil. It is a prayer that claims the power of the triune God. It is a prayer that covers all aspects of ones life, family,, and faith.  The prayer is called “Daily Prayer of Freedom” and it speaks into what we need to claim; freedom from fear, anxiety, and people,

My family, I pray you take the time to read this prayer, out loud if possible, over yourself, your family, and the church to push back fear and claim Christ over your life, in Jesus name. Please pray the same for me. God bless you my friends! .

Daily Prayer of Freedom

From John Eldredge’sbook, “Wild at Heart”

My dear Lord Jesus, I come to you now to be restored in you, renewed in you, to receive from you all the grace and mercy I so desperately need this day. I honor you as my Sovereign, and I surrender every aspect and dimension of my life totally and completely to you. I give to you my spirit, soul, and body, my heart, mind, and will. I cover myself with your blood—my spirit, soul, and body, my heart, mind, and will. I ask your Holy Spirit to restore me in you, renew me in you, and lead this time of prayer. In all that I now pray, I stand in absolute agreement with your Spirit and with my intercessors and allies, by your Spirit and by your Spirit alone.

Dearest God, holy and victorious Trinity, you alone are worthy of all my worship, my heart’s devotion, all my praise, all my trust, and all the glory of my life. I love you, I worship you, I give myself over to you in my heart’s search for life. You alone are Life, and you have become my life. I renounce all other gods, every idol, and I give to you the place in my heart and in my life that you truly deserve. This is all about you, God, and not about me; you are the Hero of this story, and I belong to you. I ask your forgiveness for my every sin. I renounce my sins. I ask you to search me and know me and reveal to me where you are working in my life and grant to me the grace of your healing, deliverance, your holiness, and a deep and true repentance.

Heavenly Father, thank you for loving me and choosing me before you made the world. You are my true Father—my creator, redeemer, sustainer, and the true end of all things, including my life. I love you, I trust you, I worship you. I give myself over to you, Father, to be one with you in everything as Jesus is one with you. Thank you for proving your love by sending Jesus; I receive him and all his life and all his work which you ordained for me. Thank you for including me in Christ, for forgiving me my sins, for granting me his righteousness, for making me complete in him. Thank you for making me alive with Christ, raising me with him, seating me with him at your right hand, establishing me in his authority, and anointing me with your love, your Spirit, and your kingdom. I receive it with thanks and give it total claim to my spirit, soul, and body, my heart, mind, and will. I bring the life and work of the Lord Jesus Christ over my life today, over my home, my family, my household, throughout my kingdom and domain.

Jesus, thank you for coming to ransom me with your own life. I love you, I worship you, I give myself over to you to be one with you in all things—spirit, soul, and body, heart, mind, and will. I sincerely receive all the work and triumph in your cross, death, blood, and sacrifice, through which my every sin is atoned for, I am ransomed and delivered from the kingdom of darkness and transferred to your kingdom, my sin nature is removed, my heart is circumcised unto God, and every claim being made against me is disarmed this day. I now take my place in your cross and death, dying with you to sin, to my flesh, to this world, to the evil one and his kingdom. I take up the cross and crucify my flesh with all its pride, arrogance, unbelief, and idolatry [and anything else you are currently struggling with]. I put off the old man. Apply to me all the work in your cross, death, blood, and sacrifice. I receive it with thanks and give it total claim to my spirit, soul, and body, my heart, mind, and will.

I bring the blood and sacrifice of the Lord Jesus Christ over my life today, over my home, my family, my household, my vehicles, finances, over all my kingdom and domain. I bring the cross, death, blood, and sacrifice of Jesus Christ against Satan, against his kingdom, against every foul and unclean spirit, every foul power and black art, against every witch, and against every human being and their spirit, their warfare and household. I bring the cross, death, blood, and sacrifice of the Lord Jesus Christ to the borders of my kingdom and domain, and I stake it there in the name of Jesus Christ.

Jesus, I also sincerely receive you as my Life, and I receive all the work and triumph in your resurrection, through which you have conquered sin, death, judgment, and the evil one. Death has no power over you, nor does any foul thing. And I have been raised with you to a new life, to live your life—dead to sin and alive to God. I take my place now in your resurrection and in your life, and I give my life to you to live your life. I am saved by your life. I reign in life through your life. I receive your hope, love, faith, joy, your goodness, trueness, wisdom, power, and strength. Apply to me all the work and triumph in your resurrection; I receive it with thanks and I give it total claim to my spirit, soul, and body, my heart, mind, and will.

I bring the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ over my life today, over my home, my family, my household, my vehicles, finances, over all my kingdom and domain. I bring the resurrection and the empty tomb of Jesus Christ against Satan, against his kingdom, against every foul and unclean spirit, every foul power and black art, against every witch, and against every human being and their spirit, their warfare, and household. I bring the resurrection and the empty tomb of the Lord Jesus Christ to the borders of my kingdom and domain, and I stake it there in Jesus’ name.

Jesus, I also sincerely receive you as my authority, rule, and dominion, my everlasting victory against Satan and his kingdom, and my ability to bring your Kingdom at all times and in every way. I receive all the work and triumph in your ascension, through which Satan has been judged and cast down, and all authority in heaven and on earth has been given to you. All authority in the heavens and on this earth has been given to you, Jesus, and you are worthy to receive all glory and honor, power and dominion, now and forever. I take my place now in your authority and in your throne, through which I have been raised with you to the right hand of the Father and established in your authority. I give myself to you, to reign with you always. Apply to me all the work and triumph in your authority and your throne; I receive it with thanks, and I give it total claim to my spirit, soul, and body, my heart, mind, and will.

I now bring the authority, rule, and dominion of the Lord Jesus Christ over my life today, over my home, my family, my household, my vehicles, finances, over all my kingdom and domain. I now bring the authority, rule, and dominion of the Lord Jesus Christ and the fullness of the work of Christ against Satan, against his kingdom, against every foul and unclean spirit—every ruler, power, authority, and spiritual force of wickedness, their every weapon, claim, and device. [At this point, I specifically name all foul and unclean spirits that I know have been attacking me, such as fear, doubt, accident, injury, death, the religious spirit, pride, arrogance, etc.] I send all foul and unclean spirits bound to the throne of Christ, together with every back-up and replacement, every weapon, claim, and device—by the authority of the Lord Jesus Christ and in his name. I command the judgment of the Lord Jesus Christ upon the heads of those that refuse to obey, and I send them to judgment, by the authority of the Lord Jesus Christ and in his name.

I now bring the authority, rule, and dominion of the Lord Jesus Christ and the fullness of the work of Christ against every foul power and black art—every hex, vex, and incantation, every spell, weave, web, veil, shroud, charm, and snare; against every ritual, sacrifice, and device; against every vow, dedication, and sacrifice, every word, judgment, and curse—written, spoken, unspoken, or transferred to me. I command them disarmed and broken by the authority of the Lord Jesus Christ and in his name.

I now bring the authority, rule, and dominion of the Lord Jesus Christ and the fullness of the work of Christ against every witch, cult, and coven, every channel of black arts to me. I cut them off in the name of the Lord; I send the glory of God to them to turn them in Jesus’ name.

I now bring the authority, rule, and dominion of the Lord Jesus Christ and the fullness of the work of Christ between me and every human being—their spirit, soul, body, their sin, warfare, and their household. I bring the full work of Christ between me and [now I name people I’ve counseled or prayed for, family members, folks in crisis looking to me, etc.]. I command their human spirits bound back to their bodies and their warfare bound to the throne of Christ in their life. I bring the full work of Christ between me and my household and all people, in the authority of Jesus Christ and in his name.

Holy Spirit, thank you for coming. I love you, I worship you, I trust you. I honor you as Lord. I receive all the work and triumph in Pentecost, through which you have come, you have clothed me with power from on high, sealed me in Christ, become my union with the Father and the Son, the Spirit of truth in me, the life of God in me, my counselor, comforter, strength, and guide. I honor you as Lord, and I fully give to you every aspect and dimension of my spirit, soul, and body, my heart, mind, and will—to be filled with you, to walk in step with you in all things. Fill me afresh, Holy Spirit. Restore my union with the Father and the Son. Lead me into all truth, anoint me for all of my life and walk and calling, and lead me deeper into Jesus today. I receive you with thanks, and I give you total claim to my life.

Heavenly Father, thank you for granting to me every spiritual blessing in Christ Jesus. I claim the riches in Christ Jesus over my life today, over my home, my family, my work, over all of my kingdom and domain. I bring the blood of Christ once more over my spirit, soul, and body, over my heart, mind, and will. I put on the full armor of God: the belt of truth, breastplate of righteousness, shoes of the gospel, helmet of salvation; I take up the shield of faith and sword of the Spirit, and I choose to be strong in the Lord and in the strength of your might, to pray at all times in the Spirit.

Jesus, thank you for your angels. I summon them in the name of Jesus Christ and instruct them to destroy all that is raised against me, to establish your Kingdom over me, to rebuild the shields and hedges of protection around me and my household, and to minister to me your ministry. I ask you to send forth your Spirit to raise up prayer and intercession for me. I now call forth the kingdom of the Lord Jesus Christ throughout my home, my household, my kingdom, and domain in the authority of the Lord Jesus Christ, giving all glory and honor and thanks to him. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Please share your thoughts after reading this prayer over your domain.

"Careless In The Care Of God"

Good morning Lord Jesus, let Your word flow into and out of my heart today.

Jesus’ teaching called the “Sermon on The Mount” is found in Matthew chapters 5-7. Sermon on the Mount seems to be that of a new Moses giving a new law.  You may have noticed that my reflection for Monday was from the first verses of The Sermon on the Mount found in chapter 5, and my reflection yesterday was from the last verses of it found in chapter 7.  These 3 chapters can be read in 15- 20 minutes.  I read them weekly to ground my life and ministry and reflect on where I am straying. I suggest you read them at least weekly as well.

My reflection this morning is on Matthew 6:25-24. The first posting of these verses comes from The New English Translation, which is a word-for word translation that tries to come as close to the original Greek text as possible in English.  The second translation is from The Message Bible, which focus is not trying to give a word-for -word translation, but a reflective translation of its contents. Read them and allow these two translations to speak to you this morning.

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink, or about your body, what you will wear. Isnʼt there more to life than food and more to the body than clothing? Look at the birds in the sky: They do not sow, or reap, or gather into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Arenʼt you more valuable than they are? And which of you by worrying can add even one hour to his life? Why do you worry about clothing? Think about how the flowers of the field grow; they do not work or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his glory was clothed like one of these! And if this is how God clothes the wild grass, which is here today and tomorrow is tossed into the fire to heat the oven, wonʼt he clothe you even more, you people of little faith? So then, donʼt worry saying, ʻWhat will we eat?ʼ or ʻWhat will we drink?ʼ or ʻWhat will we wear?ʼ For the unconverted pursue these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But above all pursue his kingdom and righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. So then, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Today has enough trouble of its own. (Matthew 6:25-34 New English Translation)

“If you decide for God, living a life of God-worship, it follows that you don’t fuss about what’s on the table at mealtimes or whether the clothes in your closet are in fashion. There is far more to your life than the food you put in your stomach, more to your outer appearance than the clothes you hang on your body. Look at the birds, free and unfettered, not tied down to a job description, careless in the care of God. And you count far more to him than birds.

Has anyone by fussing in front of the mirror ever gotten taller by so much as an inch? All this time and money wasted on fashion—do you think it makes that much difference? Instead of looking at the fashions, walk out into the fields and look at the wildflowers. They never primp or shop, but have you ever seen color and design quite like it? The ten best-dressed men and women in the country look shabby alongside them.

“If God gives such attention to the appearance of wildflowers—most of which are never even seen—don’t you think he’ll attend to you, take pride in you, do his best for you? What I’m trying to do here is to get you to relax, to not be so preoccupied with getting, so you can respond to God’s giving. People who don’t know God and the way he works fuss over these things, but you know both God and how he works. Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don’t worry about missing out. You’ll find all your everyday human concerns will be met.

“Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don’t get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes.” (Matthew 5:25-34 The Message)

My family, I pray the reading of God’s Word in these two verses will encourage you to release the control of temporal things which when we concentrate on them always bring anxiety, and to meditate on the eternal things of God which always bring peace, in Jesus’ name.  Please pray the same for me.  God bless you my friends!

I would love for you to please share your reflections with myself or others using the comment box below.

"Experience Divine Joy and Perfect Happiness"

Good morning  Lord Jesus, cleanse me this morning to be a vessel of your use throughout today.

“When he (Jesus) saw the crowds, he went up the mountain. After he sat down his disciples came to him. Then he began to teach them by saying:

“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to them.

“Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.

“Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.

“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be satisfied.

“Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.

“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called the children of God.”

(Matthew 5:1-9)

I was blessed to perform the wedding this weekend of two friends I love.  During their ceremony I read the passage from Matthew called “The Beatitudes” above over them.

The word beatitude comes from the Latin beatitudo, meaning "blessedness." The beatitudes introduce and set the tone for Jesus' Sermon on the Mount by emphasizing the humble state of humans and the righteousness of God. Each beatitude depicts the ideal heart condition of a citizen of God's kingdom. In this idyllic state, the believer experiences abundant spiritual blessings.

The phrase "blessed are" in each beatitude implies a current state of happiness or well-being. This expression held a powerful meaning of "divine joy and perfect happiness" to the people of Christ's day. In other words, Jesus was saying "divinely happy and fortunate are those who possess these inward qualities." While speaking of a current "blessedness," each pronouncement also promised a future reward.

For us in Christ today, these verse are the still the key to finding and living a life of divine joy and perfect happiness.

Blessed (divinely happy and fortunate) are the parents and children and the family who are peacemakers for joy will fill their house.

Blessed is the husband or wife and will be their marriage, if they are poor in spirit, humble, and serve each other.

Blessed is the boss, manager, worker, and co-worker that is pure in heart, for respect and dignity will be in their place of work.

Blessed is the neighbor, citizen who is merciful and generous towards people they know are suffering and struggling, for their acts of kindness will being a happiness to their soul placed their by God.

Blessed is the man or woman who hungers and thirsts for righteousness, for men and woman who are disciples of and madly in love with Jesus and their spouse needs, their children need, their grandchildren need, their world needs.

Blessed are we when we mourn the state of others and act on it, for to mourn others, you first have to love others, and to act on that love for them is acting like Jesus.

Jesus tells us latter in the this sermon from the mount, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened for you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” (Matthew 7:7-8)

My family, I pray you are blessed today,  Jesus wants to bless you today.  I pray you experience the divine happiness, fortune and joy that is available to you today.  Jesus’ saving works on the cross made the possibility of you experiencing them, everyday of your life, possible by His saving works on the cross.  Jesus’ life exemplified all the beatitudes listed above.  I pray you will seek, knock, and align your life with Jesus’ life, for if you do, you will open the door to receive all blessings including a life of joy, peace, hope, and happiness, in Jesus’ name. Please pray the same for me.  God bless you my friends!

"Pounded By The Storm"

"Pounded By The Storm"

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Your name is above every name and every moment of my day.  ...

"We were being pounded by the storm so violently that on the next day they began to throw the cargo overboard, and on the third day with their own hands they threw the ship's tackle overboard. When neither sun nor stars appeared for many days, and no small tempest raged, all hope of our being saved was at last abandoned. Since they had been without food for a long time, Paul then stood up among them and said, 'Men, you should have listened to me and not have set sail from Crete and thereby avoided this damage and loss. I urge you now to keep up your courage, for there will be no loss of life among you, but only of the ship. For last night there stood by me an angel of the God to whom I belong and whom I worship, and he said, 'Do not be afraid, Paul; you must stand before the emperor; and indeed, God has granted safety to all those who are sailing with you.' So keep up your courage, men, for I have faith in God that it will be exactly as I have been told" (Acts 27:18-25).

I pray for all the people being "pounded by the storm" in Florida and along the East Coast the face of the hurricane. Many of us have vacationed along these beautiful coasts and have family memories made on their beaches. May they "keep up (their) courage" and "have faith in God" as You bring them through the storm. May You stir hearts with compassion and empower Your servants with wisdom to help the hurting, assure the fearful, and provide for all that is needed according to Your riches in glory and the mercy of Your grace.

Paul went through a storm he never chose and was even warned against. But there he was in the midst of the aftermath nonetheless. And Your were right there with him through it all -- confirming Your word and leading by Your Spirit. Others were in a panic, but Paul was at peace "giving thanks to God in the presence of all" so that "all of them were encouraged" (v. 35-36).

Lord, turn our storms into opportunities to display "the peace of God which surpasses all understanding" (Philippians 4:7). Let our hearts be steady and secure, built on the rock of faith that cannot be shaken and overcome by the storms we endure (Matthew 7:24-25). You are our "Refuge and Shelter from the storm and rain" (Isaiah 4:6). Empower us to be Your heart and hands to minister Your peace and provision to those in panic or pain, to those suffering great loss and in need of hope and help and healing. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

My family, I pray you are steady and secure on the rock of your faith in the One who is your Refuge and Shelter through every storm.  I pray you will cover those affected with prayer and be willing to help as the Spirit of God leads you in His mercy and love, in Jesus' name. Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friends!

"Arise and Shine"

"Arise and Shine"

Good morning Lord Jesus, I surrender all , so that I can receive all from you.

“Arise! Shine! For your light arrives!

The splendor of the LORD shines on you!

For, look, darkness covers the earth

and deep darkness covers the nations,

but the LORD shines on you;

his splendor appears over you.

Nations come to your light,

kings to your bright light. (Isaiah 60:1-3)

When Isaiah walked the earth and looked out at his world approximately 3,000 years ago a deep  darkness covered his world and his nation as well.  Isaiah’s answer was not for the people of God in his time to retreat from the darkness, withdraw and isolate from the deep darkness, but to arise and go out and shine, and be beacons of light that drives out the darkness

Approximately 800 years after Isaiah and 2,000 years ago Jesus walked the earth and when He looked around the world, his nation was occupied by a foreign army and a deep darkness of sin covered his nation and the world.  Like Isaiah, Jesus’ answer was not for his followers to isolate themselves, withdraw in their churches, and withdraw from society.  But to be His light, one that illuminates and turns back darkness.  Jesus said,“You are the light of the world. A city located on a hill cannot be hidden. People do not light a lamp and put it under a basket but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before people, so that they can see your good deeds and give honor to your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:1516)

Looking at the news today, you probably get the sense that the world, our nation appears to be a scarier, darker place.  And what is the answer today?  For us to isolate, withdraw from the world, social isolate ourselves inside out homes and churches?  No, it is same answer Of Isaiah and of Jesus.  We are called to go out and light our world.   Be a light in the darkness.  And light being a metaphor for pain, be a source on love, hope, and joy in the lives of our neighbors and communities.

My family, you are the light of the world.  Because the same light of the Lord that both Isaiah and Jesus declared shines in you!  You carry the splendor of God in you!  I pray you may enter into darkness, enter into the pain in this world, and bring and be a beacon of light, healing, hope and Joy, in Jesus’ name.  Please pray the same for me.  God bless you my friends!

"Fake Before The Father"

"Fake Before The Father"

Good morning Lord Jesus, I set aside tie with You, to allow you to set me aside for your glory today.

“Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood and prayed about himself like this: ʻGod, I thank you that I am not like other people: extortionists, unrighteous people, adulterers - or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week; I give a tenth of everything I get.ʼ  The tax collector, however, stood far off and would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, ʻGod, be merciful to me, sinner that I am!ʼ I tell you that this man went down to his home justified rather than the Pharisee.” (Luke 18:10-14)

This passage speaks to me, and it speaks to I would say most in the church in America. and it haunts me.  Putting us in the place of the Pharisee on our knees before God we would say, “I tithe consistently”.  (But do we? do we give God our first fruits or just our left overs, what is convenient to give. Look at your bank statements.)  “I attend church faithfully”. (But do we? or is it when there is nothing better going on that day, when I feel like it, or maybe I will sit and drink coffee and watch on line.)    “I fast regularly in prayer.” ( But do we? When was the last time we consistently and intentionally set aside regular scheduled days to fast?  Look at your calendar, where are they?) “We are Christians.” (When was the last time you consistently imitated Jesus in picking up your cross and lived a life of sacrificial love for your neighbor? Look in your heart.)

The Pharisee was not justified because he relied on his acts of righteousness instead of humility before God and used them to separate himself from his neighbors instead of serving his neighbors.  However, at least he was honest, honorable, obeyed his covenant with God, obeyed God, and actually did what God required, though out of the wrong heart posture.  At least he was actually faithful to his religion.  If God did not justify the Pharisee, what does he think of us? As we in the American church are even worse than the Pharisee!  We have the same wrong heart posture, and we are faking our way of obeying God and posers as true practicers of our religion.

We do not have at least the integrity of the Pharisee or the broken humility of the tax collector. So where are we in this story when we come before God with our prayers?

Lord have mercy, Christ have mercy, Lord have mercy.

My family, I pray you read this passage of the words of Jesus.  I pray you may not think the “we” in this reflection applies to “someone else.” I pray you will with an honest heart, meditate what it would look like if Jesus spoke about you in this story, in Jesus name.  Please pray the same for me.  God bless you my friends!

I would love for you to please share your reflections with myself or others using the comment box below.

"Blessed Are Those Who Mourn"

"Blessed Are Those Who Mourn"

“Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.”  (Matthew 5:4)

This past Saturday morning I served at the House Of The Harvest.  It is a ministry that volunteers meet every Saturday out of their love for Jesus and their neighbors and they hand out groceries, frozen foods, a hot breakfast, personal hygiene items and clothing. Our neighbors in need get a shopping cart and go through the line where volunteers give them items they need.  After they have gone through the line other volunteers in vests help them walk to the car with their carts full of goods, cross the street, help them load their car, and then ask if they need prayer.  As a  “cart boy” is where I prefer to serve.

An elderly lady with a cane came through the line and I asked her if I could help her and she said, “Sure, Thank You.”  She was parked across the street so we walked and talked.  She said her name was Elizabeth and she was so thankful for this cart of food as it helps her so much and the box of Depends underwear for her brother.  I asked her about her brother.  She said his name was Julius.  He was born with cerebral palsy.  When he was born, the doctors said he would not  likely live more than 5 years, 10 at the most.  She said he is 63 years old now!  Elizabeth said Julius lives with her and she takes care of him.  She said Julius lived with his mom until she passed 15 years ago.  Before her mom died, she made Elizabeth promise she would not put Julius in an institution, and Elizabeth said she is honoring that promise.

She said it is hard. Her brother Julius cannot use is arms or legs,  They are locked almost in a fetal position.  And she said he cannot talk.  He just hoots and groans. She said she has to feed him, bath him, carry him to the living room, bedroom and into the car for trips to doctors and other places.  And she is a lady in her 70’s who walks with a cane!  My heart ached for her.  She got quiet, and tears flowed down her cheeks.  She said she felt terrible because the other morning she wished to herself that Julius was not in her life.  Tears flowed as she said sometimes I wish I just a week, or a couple days, or a day to just rest and take care of me.  She whispered it is hard.  By this time I had tears running down my face.   She said again she felt so guilty. Elizabeth said the morning after she said those things she had to take him to Mississippi.  She said he Julius “Sang” the whole way there.  Not with words, but with howls and hoots.  She said he made her laugh, brought her joy, and regretted again her thoughts the day before.

Elizabeth then told me she has cancer.  She pulled down the neck of her shirt to show me the scar of where they had to put a port in her chest for medicine.  She said she went through treatment for it three years ago.  She said as she was going through it she was so scared for Julius, as who would take care of him is she died.  She said she prayed to God to heal her so she could take care of her brother. And she said with a smile through her tears, “I am still here!”

I finished loading the groceries into her car and I asked Elizabeth if I could pray for her.  She said absolutely.  I told her Jesus loves her and she replied boldly, yes He does!  She raised her fist that was not holding her cane and declared, “We serve a might God!”  After we finished praying I gave her a hug and told her I loved her.  I watched her drive off, grabbed the empty shopping cart, and pushed it back to the serving line.  As I walked I thanked God for my encounter with Elizabeth.  I thanked God for what was an encounter with Jesus. I thanked God that he is forming in me a heart that mourns and weeps for my neighbors.

To mourn for your neighbors you have to personally encounter and enter into the lives of your neighbors and love them.  To encounter Jesus  and mourn with Him you have to go out and seek Him in your neighbors and love them. This can’t happen through Zoom.  This can’t happen in a sanctuary. This can’t happen from your back deck.

My family, I pray you may be blessed today to mourn.  I pray today you will be one of those Jesus speaks of as blessed are those who mourn as they will be comforted.  I pray you will seek to encounter Jesus by an encounter with your neighbor, in Jesus’ name. Please pray the same for me.  God bless you my friends!

I would love for you to please share your reflections with myself or others using the comment box below.

The Sound Of Many Waters"

The Sound Of Many Waters"

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Let my week and my day begin here in the communion of prayer, immersed in Your Presence, seeking You and Your leading--Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God. ...

As I listen, I hear in my heart the sound of a mountain stream. This thought comes to my mind--"the sound of many waters." ...

"Then I turned to see whose voice it was that spoke to me, and on turning I saw seven golden lampstands, and in the midst of the lampstands I saw one like the Son of Man, clothed with a long robe and with a golden sash across His chest. He head and His hair were white as wool, white as snow; His eyes were like a flame of fire, His feet were like burnished bronze, refined as in a furnace, and His voice was like the sound of many waters. In His right hand He held seven stars, and from His mouth came a sharp, two-edged sword, and His face was like the sun shining with full force" (Revelation 1:12-16).

Like the many waters of a mountain stream, let the Word of God wash over me and pour through me, cleansing me and refreshing me. Let the words of Your voice purify me and sanctify me "with the washing of water by the word" (Ephesians 5:26). "As the deer longs for flowing stream, so my soul longs for You, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and behold the face of God?" (Psalm 42:1-2)

When John heard Your voice like the sound of many waters, he fell down at Your feet, in deep humility in honor of Your manifest Presence of Your glory (Revelation 1:17). But then You lifted him up and told him not to be afraid, but to be about the work of the Kingdom You set before him (Revelation 1:17-19). When we humble ourselves in Your sight, You lift us up (James 4:10). When we draw near to You, You draw near to us (James 4:8). When we listen for Your voice to be led by Your Spirit as the children of God, You speak and You lead (John 10:3; Romans 8:17; Isaiah 30:21).

Thank You for the sound of many waters rushing through my spirit like a mountain stream this morning. Thank You for reminding me to forever be seeking Your Presence and listening for Your leading throughout the moments of my day. "There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy habitation of the Most High" (Psalm 46:4). In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

My family, , I pray the Holy Spirit cleanses you and refreshes you with the washing of the water by His word flowing through you, listening for the voice of the One who speaks like the sound of many waters, in Jesus' name! Please pray the same of me. God bless you, my friends!

"Communion With Jesus"

"Communion With Jesus"

Good morning, Lord Jesus. You’re with me always. And I seek to begin my day intentionally, deliberately looking to You and listening for Your leading, as I press in to Your Presence in the communion of prayer. ...

It’s in communion with You that my spiritual eyes are opened, that my spiritual heart catches fire with Your Spirit and comes life in Your Word -- just as You showed us on Your encounter with Your disciples on their walk to Emmaus:

“As they came near the village to which they were going, (Jesus) walked ahead as if He were going on. But they urged Him strongly, saying, ‘Stay with us, because it is almost evening and the day is now nearly over.’ So He went in to stay with them. When He was at the table with them, He took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them. Then their eyes were opened, and they recognized Him; and He vanished from their sight. They said to each other, ‘Were not our hearts burning within us while He was talking to us on the road, while He was opening the Scriptures to us?’ That same hour they got up and returned to Jerusalem; and they found the eleven and their companions gathered together. They were saying, ‘The Lord has risen indeed, and He has appeared to Simon!’ Then they told what had happened on the road, and how He had been made known to them in the breaking of the bread. While they were talking about this, Jesus Himself stood among them and said to them, ‘Peace be with you’” (Luke 24:28-36).

Thank You for the gift of communion with You -- not only here in these moments at the beginning of my mornings, but every moment of every day. You’re with me always (Matthew 28:20). You abide in me and I abide in You (John 15:4). You make Yourself “known to (me) in the breaking of the bread. And You are the Bread -- the Bread of Your Word, the Bread of Your Spirit, the Bread of Your Abiding Presence, “the Bread of Life” as I live my life in communion with You (John 6:35). In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

My family, may you live your life in communion with Jesus, in Jesus' name. Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friends!

I would love for you to please share your reflections with myself or others using the comment box below.
